What has not changed over the years? Does this suggest something to you?

Ans= The sea has not changed over the years. It brings to the light the fact that time brings an end to all mortal beings but the nature and its objects remain untouched and unaffected by the mortal arrow show by ‘Time’.
While the three girls in the photograph are mortal, their mortal feet’s footprints get washed away by the time whereas the sea remains the same over the years. Time brings no end to its ‘existence’.

What has the camera captured?

Ans= The camera has captured one of the happiest days of the poet’s mother’s childhood days when she was only a girls of twelve years. That day the poet’s mother and her two girl cousins were enjoying their holiday at the beach. The smiles of the three girls, the sweet face of the poet’s mother, and their holding hands of one another are all captured by the camera.

What does the ‘cardboard’ denote in the poem? Why has this word been used?

Ans: The word ‘cardboard’ denotes the damaged photograph of the poet’s mother was only twelve years of age.
The poet replaces the word ‘photograph’ with cardboard because the photograph no longer resembles a photograph but looks more cardboard as years rolled by.
